Quiet Loudly's final recordings fulfill a promise made to donors of our last full-length record, "Go Into the Light Smiling" (2012). After a successful Kickstarter effort, we were able to fund the production and distribution of that record which would have otherwise been impossible without the generosity of our supporters.
Those donors above a certain pledge level were able to request any song of their choice for Quiet Loudly to cover. "Make it as big of a challenge as you want-- we will attempt to tackle any artist, any genre of music", we invited on our Kickstarter page. We promised to record our own version of their song and release it as part of a special donor-selected digital EP. The response was so overwhelming, that we suddenly reached enough requests to fill a full-length covers album.
We ended up recording the whole thing live together in the same room, without headphones. The results are far from perfect, but we all agree that it has ended up sounding way better than we had every expected or hoped for. With the help of Jeff Berner (Psychic TV) we tracked and mixed the whole thing at Galuminum Foil in Brooklyn, NY in late March 2014. It was later mastered by our longtime friend, Justin Stivers (Passenger Peru). We went into this whole venture with nearly impossible time and budget constraints, so we owe a huge debt of gratitude to both Jeff and Justin for making this album possible.
The cover art was inspired by a record you will inevitably find at a used record store while sifting through vinyl- "Waking and Dreaming" by Orleans (1976). The sleeve for this album was kicking around our rehearsal studio for months and it always made us laugh. With the help of our dear friend and artistic wizard, Chad Turner (CTURNER Art), you can now see us awkwardly gracing the cover of this special record.
This will be our final release as our longtime bassist, guitarist, vocalist, and brother Anthony Aquilino has moved onto greener pastures in Philadelphia and we simply cannot go on without him. From the bottom of our hearts, we'd like to thank all of YOU for your support. Since our early days in 2007 until our last hurrah at Fort Useless in late March 2014, the energy and response we have received has been magical and we would be nowhere without your love. Thank you!
